The Hotel Riu Lupita is tucked away in lush tropical gardens just a mile from the resort town of Playa del Carmen. There is a free shuttle bus that transports guests to and from the beach.

The Hotel Riu Lupita is an all-inclusive resort, which means its guests can enjoy all the accommodations, the three restaurants (one on the beach), the Riu Land kids’ club and playground, and all the other features and activities at the property for one price. Guests can also pamper themselves at the Renova Spa wellness centre.

Although the Hotel Riu Lupita is not located directly on the beach, its guests can still participate in water and beach activities. The free shuttle service takes guests to and from the beach. On the beach, guests will find the Riu’s beachside restaurant and plenty of water sports equipment available for their enjoyment. For those who are interested in scuba diving, they offer beginner classes in their pool.

Hotel Riu Lupita – Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen was a small fishing village named after the patron saint of Cancun, Nuestra Señora del Carmen. It first gained notoriety as a potential tourist destination due to the ferry service that took divers to Cozumel.

Before long, visiting tourists began to realize that Cancun was much more relaxed than the crowded one and that the beaches were just as pretty, if not more so, and the turquoise waters less crowded.

Guests of the Hotel Riu Lupita can easily enjoy all that Playa del Carmen has to offer. A trip to “Playa” must include a visit to one of the coolest main streets in Latin America. Officially known as Avenida Quinta (Fifth Avenue) it is a pedestrian street that stretches for 2 miles. It is packed with restaurants, bars, shops and hotels that can keep any intrepid shopper busy for most of the day. Or you can split your time between the beach, just a couple of blocks away, and Avenida Quinta.

For families staying at the Hotel Riu Lupita, a visit to Xcaret Ecological Park south of Playa del Carmen is the perfect kid-friendly choice. It is an eco-archaeological water park where you can swim with dolphins; enjoy white sand beaches, natural pools and underground rivers along with countless other theme park-like attractions.

For those interested in the ancient civilizations of the Americas, the Hotel Riu Lupita is an excellent base for exploring the region’s history. The Maya are known to have first arrived in this region around AD 300-600. C. Just like before the tourist industry took hold, Playa del Carmen was a stopover for people traveling from the Mayan cities to Cozumel. Remnants of their great cities still exist in these coastal regions. Tulum, Cobá, Chichén Itzá and Xel Ha are an easy day trip away.
