Lessons from my faithful dog Pixie

Can you get better with your dog? Good question! However, if I had understood all the benefits of a pet sooner, I probably would have brought Pixie into my life much sooner.

Among the advantages of a pet, it is recognized that they help us develop empathy, responsibility, self-esteem, affection in addition to all the physical benefits (caresses, walks). Even if you don’t have an animal or don’t intend to have one, you may be interested in discovering the two life lessons Pixie taught me. We can really improve and rebuild ourselves thanks to an animal!
Accept the present moment, that’s all.

Dogs have a dream life. They were able to train humans to provide them with shelter and food. And so, there is only one thing left for them to do: enjoy! I watch Pixie a lot. Totally in the present moment. She doesn’t wonder what will happen next. She does not repeat what happened yesterday. If she was sprayed by the jet in the garden, she understood the lesson, she never did it again. She is not trying to change the reality around her. She takes things exactly as they are.
She is totally dependent and totally trusting. We went out? We went out. She does not ask where we are going, she does not try to negotiate: to the lake or to the forest? Either way, she will take advantage and sniff everything out. Will the walk last 5 minutes or two hours? She does not know. So she benefits from the first second. do we go back oh very good. What cushion will I sit on?

Second lesson: Acceptance

What’s the use of always looking at what I didn’t do or didn’t succeed in? What is the use of always comparing myself with those who are further, higher, more beautiful, richer and freer than me? What’s the use of trying too hard and sabotaging myself? These are blows as hurtful as the ones I give myself. Punishing me over and over again had no benefit.

So with Pixie, I learned to rebalance the positive and the negative. Objectively, I would like to be able to tilt the balance more, focusing even more on the side of successes, achievements, lessons learned, I learned not to punish myself more uselessly and even to reward myself by making the most of life. .
Animals are guides to exceptional personal development. They teach us to question some of our cultural “assets” that divert us from our natural well-being.
Lastly, by making changes gradually, to one thing a day, and taking it, you can only get better!
