Following crazy fad diets that promise a 12-pound weight loss per week is just counterproductive, but hey, you already knew that, didn’t you?

Choosing the wrong diet

Some diets are impossible to follow. If you decide to follow a diet that only allows you to eat grapefruit, for example, or cabbage soup, failure is inevitable. Your body is physically programmed to protect its fat stores, when those fat stores are threatened by hunger, it does its best to retain them, it will give up muscle for energy before it loses fat. These starvation diets simply have the effect of making you fat and miserable.

Not setting adequate goals

There is quite an art and science to goal setting, many studies have been done to show the magic of goal setting and there are hundreds of goal setting programs on the market. The truth is that by stating exactly what you want to achieve in writing and then defining the steps you’re going to take to achieve it, your likelihood of success increases phenomenally. However, in general, most people tend to ignore this important aspect of achieving their goal when embarking on a weight loss program, making failure almost inevitable.

The reasons I have listed above are the main reasons why people cannot lose weight permanently and why the diet industry is so optimistic. Americans spend about $ 35 billion a year on diet products, and the obesity problem is getting worse.
