Tips that can help you have a successful visa interview

When applying for a visa for a country of your interest, you will expect to have a successful interview that will grant you the visa so that you can travel to the country as you wish. It can be a student visa, a work or business visa, or a visit visa. In most cases, of course, you are expected to show that you do not intend to migrate to the country you are interested in, unless perhaps you are applying to join your spouse, who is already a citizen of the country in question. Some tips can be very helpful in preparing you for your visa interview and increasing your chances of success.

Tip 1 – Make sure you have on hand the aspects that link you to your country because the consular officer may require you to convince him of your true intention to travel to the country. Things like work, inheritance, investments and family are some of the things that can convince them that you are forced to return to your country for commitments. If you are a student, you should use things like your educational goals, future job preferences, career prospects, and long-term plans in your home country to show that after getting your education, you will definitely return to where you belong.

Tip 2: Always make sure that during the interview you speak on your behalf and that your relatives or parents do not speak for you. The secret is to speak for yourself and keep others out of the interview to create a positive impression on the officer conducting the interview. If they must accompany you, make sure they wait in the waiting room and allow you to handle the interview.

Tip 3: If you are applying for a student visa, make sure you have reasons ready why the program is significant in regards to your career success and why you should get it in the country you want to travel to and not in your country of source. Explain why studying in that country is related to the future of your professional career within your home country. The same should apply to business people who should convince the official of the importance of conducting business travel matters in the country of interest and not in any other country.

Tip 4: keep your answers concise. Remember there are a lot of requests that need to be handled in a very short time and you should use the minutes you were given to create a good impression on the officer. Avoid giving detailed answers, as they could lead to questions that should not have been raised and which may put you in a difficult situation. Be as concise but relevant as possible. The first few minutes count and can say a lot about you.

Tip 5: Have all the necessary documents on hand when you enter the interview and make sure they are well organized so that you know what to take out when the officer asks for it. You may not end up presenting all the documents, but you need to make sure you have everything that is relevant because you never know what your officer might ask for.
