Wax Removal: How To Remove Wax From Carpet

Step 1: Be patient.

The first mistake most people make when it comes to removing wax stains is… PANIC. Whatever you do, NEVER try to remove wax with household cleaners that you normally leave under the kitchen sink. Several of those carpet cleaning solutions can make the stain permanent.

Step 2: Act quickly, if feasible.

The quicker you react to the spill, the greater the chance of favorable outcomes. On the other hand, sometimes the spill can happen without your knowledge (children, pets). If this is the case, don’t worry! The following steps will help you with removal in any case.

Step 3: Remove as much dried wax from the carpet as possible.

There are several tools you can use to remove dry or wet wax from the surface of the carpet. A butter knife or your fingernail, just to name a few. Be gentle! No need to shake too much! Your goal is simply to remove as much dried wax from the surface of the carpet as possible.

Step 4: Take an iron and put it on the lowest steam setting.

I know what you may be thinking… “An iron??? What the hell??” I better call my carpet cleaning company to get their opinion! I promise you it will be fine as long as you set the iron on the lowest heat and steam setting.

Step 5: Take a completely white towel and place it on top of the wax.

There is no need to fold the towel. Simply place it on top of the wax. Be sure to use a white towel that has NO other colors on it. Using anything other than a completely white towel could cause the color to transfer from the towel to the rug (YIKES), making you definitely need a rug cleaning provider.

Step 6: Place the iron on the towel over the wax.

The steam from the iron will cause the wax to transfer from the rug to the towel. You may have to do this step several times with a clean section of the towel. You will notice that the stain will disappear more with each attempt.

Congratulations! He Has Waxed His Carpet Without Hiring A Carpet Cleaner!!
