Baseball Fielding Tips – Very Common Pitching Problems and How You Can Fix Them!

Here is a list of some common pitching problems, why they are happening, and some baseball fielding tips that should solve these problems:

Launches are shot down and they sail high:

There’s a good chance you’re not raising your throwing elbow to shoulder height. I have witnessed this hundreds of times over the years. Watch closely the replays on TV when the infielders get past their first baseman and the throw goes high. In almost all cases, you’ll see that the infielder didn’t raise his elbow high enough when throwing. Just remember, “elbow too low, ball high.” In essence, the ball is being “pushed” and not thrown. Another possibility to take down his target is that he may be releasing the ball before his foot hits the ground.

Under throwing the ball:

The problem is usually at your point of release. If you release the ball too late, your shot will almost definitely be too low. Another big possibility is that your lead shoulder is sunken below your pitching shoulder. If your lead shoulder sinks, there’s a good chance your throw is low and short of your target. Whenever possible, make sure your shoulders remain level throughout the throwing motion.

General erratic pitch:

There is no substitute for spending time practicing your shots. If you throw the ball every day, your throw will improve. You simply have to do it. Just remember, every time you throw a baseball, you have to aim for a target. It is one of the simplest yet most important baseball fielding tips to improve your pitch. If you have a catch with someone, target their left shoulder, then their right shoulder, left hip, right hip, etc. Every time you throw a baseball, aim for something! How can this not help? It has to help and it will help you tremendously.

If you throw erratically, the problem could be with your footwork. Not placing your feet correctly is a very common problem, especially with young people. Their feet are not steady when they throw the ball due to their impatience for wanting to throw the ball too soon. His arm is ready but his footwork is not ready yet. They have no balance or foundation. As we mentioned earlier, keep your shoulders level and keep them in line with your target. Make sure your front foot is pointed at your target and your back foot is lined up as if you were throwing and using the throwing rubber.

Once again, every time you throw a baseball, aim for a target. It is one of the easiest yet most important baseball fielding tips. There is no way on earth this won’t help you tremendously!
